Chennai Super Kings to Begin IPL 2027 Without a Batting Coach After Mike Hussey Exit
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season without a dedicated batting coach after confirming
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season without a dedicated batting coach after confirming a major overhaul of their coaching staff. The franchise's chief executive officer, Kasi Viswanathan, has confirmed that the team will not appoint a replacement for Michael Hussey, who served as batting coach for eight years.
Hussey joined CSK's coaching staff in 2018 after representing the franchise as a player. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the five-time IPL champions, who are restructuring their backroom team following several disappointing seasons.
According to the Rediff report, CSK consider their coaching staff complete following the recent appointments and departures ahead of the 2027 campaign.
CSK Confirm No Batting Coach for IPL 2027
Viswanathan confirmed that the franchise would not recruit a specialist batting coach for the upcoming season. The decision comes after CSK parted ways with Hussey, who worked closely with the team's batters during his tenure.
Hussey was part of the coaching setup during three of CSK's IPL title-winning campaigns in 2018, 2021 and 2023. His experience and understanding of the franchise made him an important member of the support staff.
CSK will now rely on their revised coaching group to help the batting unit prepare for the challenges of IPL 2027.
Zaheer Khan to Lead CSK's New Coaching Team
Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been appointed as CSK's head coach, replacing Stephen Fleming, whose association with the franchise lasted 18 years.
CSK have also appointed former India pacer Mohit Sharma as their bowling coach. Former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel and former England spinner Gareth Batty have joined the coaching group as assistant coaches.
Sridharan Sriram will continue as an assistant coach, while James Foster has been retained as fielding coach, according to the reported coaching structure.
The changes represent a substantial shift in CSK's approach as the franchise looks to build a stronger team for the next IPL season.

Several Long-Serving CSK Staff Members Depart
Hussey is among several experienced staff members who will not continue with CSK in IPL 2027. Bowling coach Eric Simons, assistant coach Rajiv Kumar, physiotherapist Tommy Simsek and head of strength and conditioning Greg King have also departed.
The franchise's decision to make multiple changes follows three seasons without an IPL title and a failure to reach the playoffs. CSK finished fifth in 2024, tenth in 2025 and eighth in 2026.
The new management team will be expected to improve the side's consistency and help the franchise return to the title race.
Can CSK Bounce Back in IPL 2027?
CSK's revamped coaching team will face the challenge of rebuilding confidence and improving performances across all departments. The absence of a dedicated batting coach will attract attention, particularly after Hussey's long association with the franchise.
However, the impact of the new structure will become clearer as the team prepares for the auction and finalises its squad for the next season.
With Zaheer Khan leading the coaching setup and several new faces joining the backroom staff, CSK will hope the changes produce better results in IPL 2027.
